Scruples...

Scruples is an uneasy feeling arising from conscience or principle that tends to hinder action. Also it’s to hesitate as a result of conscience or principle.

Many times in our lives, we have faced circumstances in which we tend to question ourselves and bring up the utmost principle of all: To do the correct thing, even if that will bring undesired consequences into our lives. Whatever we do in our daily activities puts our principles to test and occasionally there may arise serious doubts as to which is the correct path to take.

Have you ever been offered money to provide additional information to a customer, provider, contestant or whosoever shall ask for it? Have you ever been in a position to fear to say “no” to a situation or person because we believe it will risk our position within the organization or in our social life? And this would also include sexual harrasment as well.

But even if you bring this situation to your daily life, it could become a touchy issue to discuss with your children, for example. How would you react if your children take something that has not been paid yet at the Supermarket?, Would you let them eat a candy, chocolate or a yogurt which has not been paid yet? Would you pay for it afterwards? What would you say to him?

On the other hand, would you accept a promotion in your job knowing that probably it has been granted to you because your boss will invite you out for “dinner” after that? Would you accept to become his/her lover in order to keep that very well paid position?

When this is only theory, it’s very easy to choose the right thing to do, but when it comes up in real life, choice may not be so certain.

Now, you tell me: Have you ever faced something which has put your principles to the test? When?...
